Off the Bench, Into the Game
For too long, individuals with disabilities have been sitting on the bench, unable to fully participate in sports because traditional programs weren’t built for them. Playmakers was founded to change that. We believe everyone deserves the chance to play, grow, and thrive, regardless of ability. Since 2016, we’ve been working to make sports accessible for all, starting with our adaptive baseball program, which began with just nine players and has now grown over 200 families and over 100 dedicated volunteers, including local high school athletes that serve as buddies on the field.
At the heart of Playmakers is our buddy system, where children and adults with cognitive, developmental, and physical disabilities are paired with high school buddies, creating friendships and unforgettable memories. Our goal is simple: to ensure that every individual, no matter their abilities, can get off the bench and into the game. We’re building a community where inclusion is the norm, and everyone has the chance to experience the joy of sports.
Leveling the Playing Field
In Southern California, there's a big problem: people with disabilities have very few places to play adaptive sports or enjoy recreational activities.
In Long Beach alone, there are 10 dedicated dog parks—but not a single park for individuals with disabilities. This lack of inclusive spaces means many miss out on the chance to play, stay active, and connect with their community—important things that build confidence and boost self-esteem. It's clear we need more spaces where everyone, regardless of ability, can join in the game.
Help Us Build a Space Where Everyone Can Play. Our dream is to build the first fully adaptive sports and recreation center in Southern California. Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word, you can be part of the solution. Together, we can create a community where no one is left on the sidelines.
Playmakers is dedicated to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy the freedom and empowerment that comes from participating in sports and recreational activities.
